Translation from German into Russian

Translation from English into Russian

Field of my expertise
I only translate into Russian, my mother tongue. I do not translate "everything". I only translate those texts that correspond to the field of my expertise. With regard to the translation from English into Russian, it includes as follows:
  • general texts,

  • travels, tourism,

  • geology,

  • oil and gas prospecting.

The translated text is edited and proofread after editing (these services are included in the translation price). It is also checked by the second native Russian speaker (included in price).

While translating I take into account the rules, traditions, habits, and customs of those for whom the text is intended. The literal translation in many cases distorts the author's intention and leads to misunderstanding or funny results. This is particularly true for general texts, adverts, websites, etc. The translation process is an adaptation of the author's idea to another culture, and this requires the engagement of a qualified native speaker. As a result, the reader must get the impression that the text was written by Russian author.

Glossary for translation
It is helpful if the client provides a glossary. Under a glossary is meant here an alphabetical list of special terms and expressions in a particular domain of knowledge with their translation into Russian. A glossary includes terms that are either newly introduced, uncommon, or specialized. A glossary may also contain examples of usage.
There are special rules and formats for glossaries. However, in the simplest case, a glossary may be of any format, just as a simple list.
The availability of a glossary assures the correct translation of special terms, according to the client's standards.

Original formatting and layout
If necessary, I can translate a document preserving the original formatting, images, and page layout. The resulting document will be as close to the original as possible and will be ready for immediate use or publication.
Formatting often requires considerable effort, due to the mismatch of the lengths of the source and target texts. This especially regards to tables, captions on images, user interfaces, websites, etc. Therefore, this service is extra charged.

Free translation

By agreement with the client, I can perform a free translation. In this case, I read the original text, catch the idea and present it in Russian. This option is preferred when the client is interested in the meaning of the document, rather than the wording.

Source file format
Generally, I receive documents per e-mail. I commonly deal with files in the following formats:
  • .doc, .docx, .txt, .rtf, .xls, .xlsx, .pdf, .csv
  • .jpg, .gif, .png, .xcf
  • .htm, .html, .shtml, .php, .js, .xml
The preferred formats are as follows:
  • .doc, .docx, .rtf

You send
You send me your document and (optionally) some supplementary materials as follows:
  • description of the purpose of the document (optionally, desirable),
  • glossary (optionally, desirable),
  • formatting requirements (optionally),
  • special wishes,
  • etc.

You get
  • your document in Russian,
  • updated glossary (without extra charge),
  • my comments.
